Rogaine contains Minoxidil that helps in prevention of hair loss in both men and women due to pattern baldness. FDA approved Minoxidil can be found in the products in 2% and 5% strength as per requirement. Rogaine comes in both liquid and foam form in the above-mentioned strengths. It can be difficult to decide which one is better. So, by knowing about Minoxidil foam vs liquid one can clearly understand which one is better for them to use.
Difference between liquid and foam Rogaine
Rogaine solution was available previously but the foam version has been launched recently. To understand about Minoxidil foam vs liquid, you need to understand the content of the products, its application and the results.
- Liquid Rogaine contains propylene glycol, water and ethanol where as the foam form does not have the propylene glycol. Propylene glycol can penetrate into the skin easily to reach the hair follicle. So propylene glycol along with others in the liquid Minoxidil makes it easier for absorption. However there has been no such study to prove that.
- The liquid solution is applied to the dry scalp directly. It can be applied to the scalp where hair is thinning using a 1ml dropper and then massaged into the skin to reach the hair follicle. The foam can be applied to the dry scalp using the hand and no dropper is required.
- Many people are sensitive to propylene glycol in the liquid Rogaine and thus it can lead to irritation and itchiness in the scalp which can damage it in the long run. Foam version of the drug does not have this item which reduces the chances of any irritation to the scalp.
According to a study done it has been found that the result of the both the liquid as well as the foam Rogaine are almost the same. However, the incidence of scalp irritation can be high in the liquid Rogaine users as compared to the foam users.
